International NGO

International NGO, Geneva Switzerland

Client Profile

International NGO that T4Bi worked for is responsible for providing leadership on global health matters, shaping the health research agenda, setting norms and standards, articulating evidence-based policy options, providing technical support to countries and monitoring and assessing health trends.

The Challenge

The challenge was to allow different Health organizations to collect, share and exploit diverse health data, using the same database and tools. Ultimately the goal is to centralize Health data, make it more accessible to appropriate users and improve the quality of the data and metadata in the process.

The International NGO, like most large organizations, had amassed thousands of health databases of all manner of technology, content and importance (to a wider audience). OpenHealth, the system developed by T4Bi provides an alternative to creating more disintegrated, non-standard databases.

Solution Highlights

T4Bi developed the Open Health platform for the International NGO; this platform enables Public Health data to be collected, reported, analyzed, mapped (GIS) and published (via a Portal). T4Bi were subsequently engaged to migrate data and create new applications using the OH Platform.

Deployed in a datacenter with public and internal access points; accessible world-wide.  Number of users and requests is expected to evolve over time (in 2008 at launch statistics showed 1,500 requests per day).

Technologies Used

MySQL database, Mondrian OLAP server, thin Java middle tier published as a REST (Representational State Transfer) service, rich Adobe Flex presentation, integration with MS Excel.
